This article aims to contribute a better understanding of investigative journalism by proposing multi-step method for identifying pieces, despite the genre’s blurred definition. uses internal criteria observable in texts themselves, regardless their author, awards received, label, or discourses about them. Based on literature review, an exploratory analysis and practical testing, we claim that examining articles’ underlying sources provides set allows researchers select exclude pieces flexible yet consistent way. When applied nine-month sample, allowed us create corpus showing great thematic, methodological narrative diversity. Moving away from elitist conception journalism, our shows transcends traditional boundaries discursive genre.
